Site Updates

May 13, 2002

Registration: Pre-Conference Registration is now closed. On-site registration will be available starting at 5:00 PM, Saturday May 18th.

May 13, 2002

Lunch: Due to budgetary restrictions, there will only be one lunch (on Wednesday, 22 May 02) provided to conference attendees. If there are any special dietary restrictions we should know about, please let us know in advance so we can plan the right number of vegetarian, etc. meals. We are reviewing registration data and anticipated expenses to see if it is feasible to add another lunch on Thursday. Send your requests to Will Tracz.

Keynotes: 2) In a break from tradition, keynote speakers will not answer questions from the floor after delivering their addresses. Instead, written questions will be collected during and after the presentation and delivered to the session chair, who will then consolidate, summarize, and paraphrase them for the keynote speaker to answer. Students will be periodically walking up and down the aisles with a small sign indicating they are collecting questions starting approximately 1/2 hour after the beginning of the keynote speaker's address. They will have note cards to write the questions on, or you may submit the question on any note paper.

May 10, 2002

Please Note: Discount theme park tickets are still available but order forms can no longer be processed and tickets sent to you by postal mail. Instead, order forms can be sent in and tickets can be picked up at the hotel business center, which is located next to the conference registration area. Tickets can also be purchased directly at the business center.

Music and Free Tango Lessons

Conference attendees may want to adjust their evening social calendar to enjoy the special entertainment that is scheduled for the conference receptions. Wednesday night will feature some light jazz and funk by Columbia Record and Blue Note recording artists Tom Dietz on tenor, Don Scaletta on Keys and Tony Ventuenia on bass. In addition, rumor has it that there will be some special guest celebrity performance around 7:10.

On Wednesday night you can enjoy the rhythm of a hot salsa band as well as be entertained by two performances of some very famous Argentine Tango Dancers. In addition they will be offering a free Tango lesson - at 9:00 after the Reception in the Royal Ballroom!

The hotel is forecasting to 'sell out' on the 20th, 24th & 25th.

If you are using the Marriott online reservation system, you may run into a "rooms unavailable" situation. This is because our room blocks are filling up fast.

In order to accommodate the increased number of reservations, we are daily increasing the room block.

We ask your patience in this matter.

If you have questions, please contact Will Tracz (Will.Tracz@acm.org) and he will be happy to assist you in resolving the matter with the hotel.
